MOVIEFEST PRESS RELEASE 31 October 2008 STARTS Finalists selected for MovieFest 2008 WELLINGTON - OCTOBER 31, 2008? The MovieFest Charitable Trust announced today that they have now completed the finalists judging for the 2008 MovieFest competition that is targeted towards schools and hobbyist movie-makers. ?This is the fifth time the MovieFest nation-wide short movie competition that is designed to showcase the creativity of New Zealand movie makers has been held. There are three entry categories of primary schools, secondary schools, amateurs or home hobbyists.? says Graeme Moffatt, a trustee of the Moviefest Charitable Trust. ?Entrants have produced short three to five minute movies on a specific subject and entrants were given just over eight weeks to produce their movie.? Mr Moffatt says the topic for this years competition was ?Technological Development? and movies were judged on how well they interpreted the topic along with their general production quality. The top four movies in each of the three categories were appraised by a panel of judges who are all seasoned professionals in the film and video industries. An overall best movie was also selected and as their prize, the team making the movie will tour a number of the film making facilities responsible for making the Lord of the Rings and King Kong films. Mr Moffatt went on to say that the public screenings and Awards Ceremony for the competition will be held in Upper Hutt?s Genesis Theatre in Fergusson Drive on Saturday 8th November, 2008. ?The Awards Ceremony commences at 3.30pm following the continuous public showcasing starting at 10 am of all the movies entered in the competition?, said Mr Moffatt.
