Are you able to give us  timeline of when judging will be completed and the finalists named? I always get hassled by my team for this info. Thanks. Smiley

We have the initial round of technical checks this weekend.  We'll be playing all the movies, checking music and media is ok, and rechecking and rights that seem doubtful, checking that length is within guidelines, and deciding once again, if it's worth paying the censors $200-$1000 per movie to show guns to a 'family' audience Roll Eyes. Our selectors should be able to produce some comments and rating on technical aspects during this - and we'll try to get that feedback to you all as soon as possible. I'll likely be updating Twitter during the day with on the go comments -- so do check out http://twitter.com/MovieFest

From that we should be able to have a draft of the screenings schedule - and can let you know if it'll be playing in the theatre on 7th/8th November in Upper Hutt, and if you're in the running for a award.  I'd love to put up some trailers - so you can see what you're up against - but we'll see.

After that the judges will meet and deliberate on Wednesday 22nd October from 10am in Lyall Bay -- and a sealed envelope will be delivered to the Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre in Upper Hutt on the 8th.

So tell the kids we should have some feedback after the weekend.

Not looking forward to lots of data entry (Movie Detail forms) - the poor post shop people give me a big plastic bag of packages each day I go there -- a bit too many for the post box Smiley

I snuck a look at a couple - and there is some cool stuff!

If you're local, and want to catch up with the team, then let us know and pop down to Monaghan Ave, Karori, Wellington from 7pm Saturday 11th.  The org-team and trustees are having a BBQ (BYO food) with selectors, and then settling into an evening of MovieFest selections.

We'd love for you to join us. Please let me know!

Well folks, we have now seen all the movies and it's really great to see the overall standard of entries is improving. I'm sure the judges will have a hard time sorting out the winners.

We will announce who the finalists will be in the next day or so and will be sending out emails to everyone with details of who they are along with some comments about their entries.

Here's a preliminary list of movies selected for the final round of judging.

Primary Schools
Principal in the Closet
Amber in Space
The Future Show

Secondary Schools
Game
Space Junk
Threnody
Pet Against your Will

Hobbyists
Presents from the Past
Harry
The Gift
One Skill Leads to Another

Congratulations to all those selected. All the movies entered were enjoyable so the trustees have decided to show them all at the public screenings in Upper Hutt in November.

Emails confirming the results will be sent out to everyone shortly.

Will the winners will be notified before the screenings/prizegivings? I might make the trip up if it turns out I've won something... otherwise its a pretty long journey

Sorry the answer is no. It would take away from the interest in the awards ceremony if everyone knew who the winners were in advanced. Apart from this, the judges have only provided us with sealed envelopes detailing the winners so we don't know who they are yet as well.

Absolutely, that's fair enough. I guess that brings me to my second question which was asked by another user in another thread;

Do we have to be at the awards in person? (I live in Ak)  Huh

Attending the screenings and awards ceremony is purely voluntary. If you are a winner and get your name called to come up on stage and receive your award, then going to the ceremony would be a big buzz. However, there will only be three winners and its anyone's guess who they will be, so the choice is up to each team as to whether they will make the effort to attend.

In past years, we have had teams from as far away as Auckland and Dunedin come to the awards ceremony and walk away with prizes.
