Now that the deadline has been and gone, who's keen to give a brief synopsis of what their film is about? Would be good to get some dialogue going on here!  Smiley

I'll kick it off with our two entries:

Team: Everything Sticks
Title: Faith and Reason
Category: Amateur/Hobbiest
Brief Synopsis: The dangers of technology are explored as an inventor and his friend weigh up the consequences of a creation after it shows them something that challenges their conflicting beliefs on what is the "right" thing to do.

Team: FilmLinc
Title: Lincoln's Ghosting Dream
Category: Secondary School
Brief Synopsis: A mockumentary about a High School ghosting team preparing for a local tournament - the techniques & technology they use and the challenges they face in trying to be the very best!

Over to you!  Cool

Speaking of sharing - who wants iPod/Mobile phone versions of the movies to be available at the Screenings? We'll likely have a DVD for purchase, but in these days of digital content, handheld version would be cooler, right?

I (Jo) was just loading them onto my iPod Touch the other day to show off, and wondered if you guys need some content to fill your iPod or Mobile Phone

The Trust requests permissions to showcase and screen your movies (in any medium possible) as part of the small print in the entry form, and you can find the 2007 finalists in limited quality on YouTube.com (thanks to the the censors), but as Producers and Directors how do you feel about us putting you on YouTube?
I always feel 'naughty' taking advantage of those rights - and YouTube doesn't yet have rights control of licensing options.
What I'm saying, is that you should feel free (After the Screenings!) to upload  your Movies to Google Video, Youtube, vimeo, seesmic, nzshortfilm.com or where-ever -- but let us know - and we can link from the 2008 movies page on the site.

So iPod versions?  What kinda iPods or Phones?  .3gp? .m4v .avi?

sounds like a great idea to put them on youtube, maybe if possible you could put some downloads of the vids on moviefest.com if possible, because some entrants may not be able to be in wellington to purchase them, just a thought.

Ok, here's briefly what my entry's about:

TEAM: Megalomaniac Productions
TITLE: Evolution
CATEGORY: Secondary Schools
SYNOPSIS: A crazy scientist goes back in time to get a DNA sample off a primitive ape, so that he can prove evolution. However, MI6 really wants him and his time machine back, so they send a special agent back in time to get him... by whatever means necessary. But what neither of them counted on was the wildlife...

More of a spoiler/teaser then a synopsis, but MY MOVIE'S A FINALIST (WOOHOO) so I won't give away the ending. Wink

And I think that putting any movie on your phone or iPod is a bad idea.
It's too small a screen to pull you right in.
Give me the cinema over internet movie download any day. Cool
...But YouTube is a great, great thing.

Do we have to be at the awards in person? (I live in Ak)  Huh

at 160 pixels per inch, (H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second)  - let me assure you, your movie looks fantastic on my iPod Wink

MovieFest would like (film) digital movie people to pop to Upper Hutt this Saturday, vote in the delightful Rimutaka district, and come support local and national talent in the MovieFest 2008 Digital Short Movie Competition Showcase and Finalist screenings, along with the MovieFest 2008 Awards Ceremony.

If you can't make it in person - send someone local! to accept your prize and fill our theatre Wink

Public screenings for the competition will be held in Upper Hutt?s Genesis Theatre on Fergusson Drive on Saturday 8th November, 2008 from 10am? (continuous loop). The Awards Ceremony will be held at 3:30pm following the screenings. Entry is by donation to the MovieFest Charitable Trust.

The MovieFest Topic for 2008 was "Technological Development"

The best movies in each section of the three categories, Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Hobbyists will be screened in Upper Hutt and released to the 'net (late) on Saturday at http://MovieFest.org.nz/08/movies

my iPod playlist is: (my sypnosis)

Principal in the Closet (alien hypnosis, but kids fight back)
Amber in Space (frozen in time, Amber wakes to a world full of garbage, and hope)
The Future Show
Evolution
Game (What if the game was real?)
Space Junk (2 guys, a Ute and a bit of space junk chasing them)
Threnody (Google define:threnody - v. moving)
Pet Against your Will (Abducted, and forced into pet-hood?)
Presents from the Past (Alien documentary looks at our society)
Harry (technological advances + youth?  where will it end)
The Gift (If you could give the gift of a lifetime, what would it be?)
One Skill Leads to Another (Not good to teach old dogs new tricks)
and I think some more. Strangely those of DVD were easily put onto iPod, while the others require non DVD ripping skillz. Wink
k thx!

Great!  If you get stuck - just try the Wellington phone book and make random calls Wink

A number of finalist teams will have problems getting to Upper Hutt - so I think the plan for this is either to try skyping me: jo-mangee or IM during the day  (click on the IM icons in my profile). I'll try to set up a webcam and feed it in to the forums/Movie page -- and once we get the screener duplicated - you can have a local screening - just need a big screen/projector and a lounge or small theatre or school hall. Plan to have a screening sometime - and I'll sort out the logistics when I get some time.

1 hour till screenings start, and I still ain't out of my PJs.  argh!
See attached poster.

I couldn't make it on saturday. Does anyone know if we'll get feed back from the judges? And what did the winners receive?

I missed the judging myself - but one of the other Trustees was there, and in due course we'll have some comments available.  This week we'll post out the certificate which give your placing - I did take a couple of photos in the MovieFest set on flickr - which might have your certificate.  Which Movie did you make?

Details of prizes are in another post - in total was worth about $500 or more of DVD/CD duplication from Amstore.co.nz and Vouchers for StudentIT.co.nz. The overall winners also get a  tour of the Weta 'kingdom' here in Miramar, Wellington.

Been a bit snowed under here with my day job, so sorry about the delay in replying.
